CHYMIST: DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Here are some of my favorite questions to jump-start your discussion about CHYMIST.

(Fun Fact: I also love to talk about books! I’d be delighted to join your book club or school group for a round table. You can contact me here to set up a date.)

  • Which character do you find the bravest? The most selfless? The most selfish?

  • In the story, people flock to Nautilus by the hundreds. Why do you think that is? What is it about Nautilus that people would find attractive?

  • What advice would you have given Natalie to help with her grief?

  • Do you think Natalie should have turned to her friends sooner for help? Why didn’t she? Who do you turn to for help when you need it?

  • In Chymist, Natalie and her friends discuss whether or not they are still the “good guys.” What do you think?

  • What is the significance behind the name “Moirai?” How does that fit in with the overall themes of The Coelacanth Project?

  • At one point in the story, Natalie realizes “their parents were no better equipped than she was.” What does this mean for Natalie? What does this mean to you?

  • How do Uncle Christopher’s conversations with Natalie reflect upon her character? What might this mean for her going forward?

  • A major focus for Natalie throughout Chymist is finding her way home. What does ‘home’ mean to you? What do you predict Natalie’s home will look like in Regent?
